Adding Metadata

Now that you have had the chance to view the media in detail, you are now ready to add metadata. Adding metadata is very important. What you add at this stage will be essential for finding the image/video again when it is added to a database, or if it is compiled as part of a report.

On the right hand side you will see a number of fields which need to be filled in.

The Originators Ref is required when you first start RECLAIM - this is then automatically 'tagged' to each piece of media you review.

Choose a classification from the drop down menu.

If your image/video clip doesn’t quite fit in with one of the Classification terms or if the image needs further information regarding classification, add it in the Caveat text box.

Digital images/video clips are usually date and time stamped by the digital Camera at the point when they are taken. If that is true of your images, the Capture Date and Local Time of Capture fields will both be retrieved from the image automatically and placed in these fields for you. If that data was not available in the image, then enter this manually.

For Capture Location (GPS), if the data is available within the image then it will be loaded automatically onto the screen. If the data is not automatically found, please enter a Latitude and Longitude position for the location where the image was taken. Note: video does not contain GPS information.

For Target Location, certain camera systems will be able to embed the image with information relating to the height and distance of the target image. If your camera is capable of this then the data will automatically be loaded for you. Note: video does not contain Target information.

Description
Please enter as much useful descriptive analysis as possible. As a minimum, enter Details relating to which Country the image was taken in, the city or town, the event that was taking place and what is the subject being taken. Eg: UK, Farnborough, Airshow, SU50 flying display.

We have included a number of tools to make the job of entering metadata as easy as possible. If after you have entered a set of metadata which you think will mostly apply to all the images/clips, you can press the ‘Set defaults’ button. This means that whenever you choose to view another image/clip, the metadata you’ve just entered will be automatically loaded again. You can of course still change any of the metadata.

Also included to make the process easier is the Copy last description button. As you would expect, this copies the last description you entered into the description field for the currently loaded image/video clip.
