Inspecting images and video

Now you’ve made your initial assessment and maybe discarded a few images, you’re ready to assess your images/video clips. Click on one of the images/clips you want to assess, or you can click on its green tick button. If you want to work through all the images in a methodical manner it’s worth starting with the first available image at the top of your ‘IMAGES’ page.

Inspecting images

You will now see a larger version of the thumbnail image you selected. This image should help you decide what information you will enter as part of your inspection. However, you can get an even closer look at an image by clicking the zoom button. This is the magnifying glass icon at the top left of the image. If you are reviewing video the magnifying glass icon will let you review the video at full screen size.

The metadata entry page - the magnifying glass icon can be seen top left of the image

Once you have clicked the button you will see the image much larger – in fact it will now fill the whole screen. If that’s not enough detail, you can get in even closer by clicking the ‘+’ button. You can zoom in a total of 10 more times. (This only applies to still images - video cannot be zoomed in.)

Use the scroll bars along the right and bottom of the screen to locate the area you are interested in. If you zoom in too far, you can zoom back out using the’-‘ button.

When you have finished inspecting your image or video clip simply click the ‘Magnifying icon’ button and you will return to the previous metadata entry page.

You can also rotate the image using the rotation buttons if it will help you assess the image – the image will remain rotated even if you then zoom in on the image. Video clips cannot be rotated.

You also have a number of effects you can apply to the image which can also help to create a more useful image. To apply these effects, click the ‘E’ button above the image. This will launch a dialogue box with a number of filters. (You cannot apply effects to video clips).

Use the sliders to alter the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Gamma for the picture. As you move the sliders you will see that the image will change in real time so you can easily judge the amount of filter to apply. Once you have finished applying the effects, click the OK button. If you want to go back to state of the image before you started using the sliders, press the reset button.

If you apply the effects, the image you will see from now on will have the these filters applied to it. However, the original untouched image will also be saved on the CD/DVD you will create later.

Inspecting Video

When Reclaim loads a video clip it gives you basic controls for playback - eg, play, pause stop. You also have a slider for a quickly navigating through the video.

You can also use the magnifying glass icon to playback the video at 'full size'
